Club Race # 4

E-mail Print PDF

Welcome Race Fans! Club Race # 4 took place on July 11, 2010.  Tonia and I arrived at the field to find Wayne already there and getting set up. Tonia got her first look at the newly reorganized registration office and new computer, she was much appreciative. The new computer worked flawlessly and registration went smoothly. On behalf of everyone involved in FRM Racing, I would like to thank all the FRM members who worked to organize the office. Also a big thanks to Wayne and all the FRM members who voted to fund and purchase the new computer.  All your hard work is much appreciated.

As you might expect for July it was Hot, but there was some relief in morning provided by an unexpected cloud cover which burned off as the morning progressed and the temperature rose. There was a gentle breeze coming from the south which would shift from south to south/west to south/east causing take-off and landing patterns to change all day. The constant change did create some confusion but all the pilots did a good job of getting their racers up and down safely.

The .40 class started the day with 5 racers but only 4 would finish the day.  In the second round Dave Chandler’s engine quit forcing him to bring it in “Dead Stick”, unfortunately  the plane went off the runway and cart-wheeled in the dirt.  Dave was able to tape his plane back together and start in the third round, however once airborne he lost control and “Stuffed-It-In”.  With Dave out for the day the other racers agreed to fly one 4 plane heat for last two rounds. Dave was not the only one to experience technical difficulties, Vahn Y. earned two DNFs (did not finish) due to engine failure but luckily was able to land without damage. Cole Mayfield earned the most points for the day with 23, but Oakhurst Bob is still in the lead with 82 points. The .46 class had 10 pilots including Buddy Smith who has been absent the last three races, WELCOME BACK BUDDY!  The Big Boys of the .46 class enjoyed a great day of good clean racing fun, with some tight racing and close finishes. Despite a few cuts here and there everyone finished all their heats and scored well into double digits. Brett Cole once again managed to defend his position on the top rung of the points ladder with 23 points, bringing him to 90 points for the series.

Thank You to John, Gary & Molly for pylon judging.  Thank You to Pete and all the lap counters. Thank You to Wayne for setting up the computer, printer and generator. Thank you to Tonia for taking our money, making the matrix and putting me in all the three plane heats (that’s how the computers random generator worked ?). Thank You to everyone who came out and endured the July heat to make FRM Club Race #4 a success. All your hard work is much appreciated.  See you all again Saturday September 4, 2010 for FRM Club Race # 5.

    Dear Members

It is with heartfelt gatitude that I try to express to you the warmth and openess that my family and I received at your latest event!

Your fourth racing event was our first ever experience in the excitment of R.C. flying, and the boys,( my nephews Knight (8) and Jovie (12) have not stopped talking about it yet! Tonia, your smile and informal ways, had them quoting things you said all week! Thanks to your husband too for making it unaimous. Go Team Pink!

It does my heart good to know that there are still dreams and dreamers that come together to enjoy a beautiful day and a shared pleasure despite differences and world situations.

Everyone that we met gave of themsevles and offered tidbits of infromation and wisdom. Does and don't, new stores to explore, (have got to stop by 14th and 41 and see the goodies!) One gentleman even offered his services once we decide to commit.

Being on the observing end for so long, (a lurker), I am glad that get...
